About Qatar

Al Zubara Fort

Al Zubara Fort was originally built by Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938 to serve as a Coast Guard station, although some utter that it was built to serve as a police station. It was later renovated into a museum to display diverse exhibits and artworks, most especially for contemporarily topical archaeological findings
Al Zubara Fort is situated in the ancient town of Zubarah, which in turn is located on the northwestern coast of the Qatar peninsula in the Al Shamal municipality, and is about 105 km from the Capital of Qatar

BARZAN TOWERS

The Barzan Towers are some of the most well-preserved 18th and 19th century fortifications and religious buildings in the country and can be found in the town of Umm Salal Mohammed in the suburbs of Doha. The towers were built in 1910 and 1916 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani, the founder of Umm Salal Mohammed, and could have been used as a lookout for monitoring the surrounding area, or as an observatory for determining the dates of the lunar calendar. Both towers, along with a madrasa and a mosque, have recently been restored and now sit in a garden surrounded by indigenous plants. Originally constructed from stones that were covered with mud, the western tower has an architectural style unique to the region, while the eastern tower is built in the traditional Qatari style. SOUQ WAQIF

Souq Waqif is a marketplace (souq) in Doha, in the state of Qatar. The souq is noted for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to dozens of restaurants and Shisha lounges. Although it dates back at least a hundred years, it was renovated in 2006 to conserve its traditional Qatari architectural style. It is often perceived to be the only lasting area in Doha that retains an authentic feel notably in reference to its commerce, architecture and culture. The area is very popular with locals and expats alike (especially on weekends) as it offers multiple dining options in the same location. It is located in the district of Al Souq which is situated in the center of Doha.[1] As it was a market used for trading activities, the area used to be located immediately adjoining the shore to allow for boats to access it. Although still facing the water, the direct link to the water front for boats is now divided by a major road and the recently completed park.
